Strawberries & Cream Wax Plant - Hoya

Strawberries & Cream Wax Plant - Hoya

Hoya carnosa is one of 100 species of Hoya that are native to Eastern Asia and Australia. The this easy to grow houseplant Hoya carnosa was named for Thomas Hoym, gardener to the Duke of Northumberland at the end of the 18th century.

Blooming Time: Summer: Clusters of attractive, star shaped, pink-white blossoms are produced in summer. The delicate flowers appear to be made of porcelain and are truly unique.

Culture: Hoya carnosa does best in at least 4 hours of bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight. Night temperatures of 60 to 65 degrees and day temperatures of 70 degrees or higher are optimal. Water freely during flowering but allow the soil to become almost dry between waterings when the plants are not rapidly growing. Fertilize every 2 months in spring and summer. Do not remove the leafless spurs or stubs, on which new flowers appear every year.

Propagation: Hoya carnosa can be propagated at anytime by air layering or by stem cuttings. A portion of the stem including one or more pairs of leaves will quickly produce roots in water or damp sand.

The plant you will receive is growing in a 4" pot.

1 Red and 1 Green Prayer Plant - Maranta - Easy to grow

Prayer plants and other nighttime movers are just trying to fool you into thinking they're settling down for a good night's rest. Prayer plants have big, oval leaves that turn upward at night. The folding and unfolding of the leaves happens in a regular pattern. Plant biologists call these daily cycles circadian rhythms. The Red and Green Prayer Plants are easy to grow. Just provide bright indirect light and keep evenly moist. Great houseplants!

5 Baby Staghorn Fern Plants

Sunday, March 7, 2010
5 Baby Staghorn Fern Plants

5 baby Staghorn ferns (platycerium bifurcatum) right out of the grow tray. The plants are from tissue culture. The leaves are approximately 3 inches long and they are growing fast. We will ship as plugs, ready for you to pot up or mount. Staghorns are epiphytic ferns that grow naturally on bark or tree branches. They have two different types of fronds. One grows outward from the base giving it its name (Staghorn) and another that cups the area where it's rooted. These are easy to grow. Keep them somewhat moist, especially if mounted. Provide bright light but no direct sun, especially at this baby stage. Keep between 55 and 85 degrees. Fertilize once a week, with a weak, well balanced fertilizer. These will come to you as plugs, right out of the grow tray and we recommend mounting them by wrapping the plug in sphagnum moss and attaching to a wooden or ceramic mount with strips of old panty hose. Alternatively, you can plant in pots of peat moss mixed with a little potting soil.

Brussel's Satsuki Azalea Outdoor Bonsai Tree

With small, round leaves and large, pink flowers blooming from May to June, this broadleaf flowering bonsai is packed with stems for a gorgeous late spring show. Though the Satsuki Azalea has just one flower per stem, the shrub has so many stems that during the flowering season they are a solid mass of color. Grown in Japan for centuries, the Satsuki Azalea's graceful trunk movement adds distinct shape to the patio, deck or garden. This particular bonsai is 5 years old and stands 8 inches tall. Although evergreens can be displayed indoors for short periods of time, they need to experience seasonal changes and should be kept outside year round.

FULL Japanese Juniper Bonsai Tree in AUTHENTIC Japanese Bonsai Pot

FULL Japanese Juniper Bonsai Tree in AUTHENTIC Japanese Bonsai Pot

The design of this juniper bonsai tree gets its inspiration from trees that grow in the mountains and high country. It has its beautiful trailing branches extended out from the container that represents a tree grows at a high altitude that is forced to grow outward and downward due to the high wind and weight of snow in the winter. The trunk curves somewhat and the branches of the tree are swept away from the edge of the cliff to reach the sun to survive. This is the most unusual and dramatic style of bonsai that maintains its balance and its features contribute to the effect of mature age and beauty of the tree. Sitting in an expensive, high quality, altered, stoneware, naturally high fired pot - that is built to last - comes with original artist's personal seal (symbol) at the bottom of the container - since every individual pot was hand made, the color and pattern of each bonsai pot may slightly vary.
